The Homeopathic Constitution, is a term which refers to a character and behavioural analysis. It looks at a general lifestyle, emotional preferences, any physical likes and dislikes, such as eating habits and preference of certain foods, sleeping habits, energy levels, stress patterns, etc. It is an a truly in-depth look into a person's character.
The homeopathic constitution was discovered and developed by an English homeopathic doctor named Dr.Kent. The application of the corresponding remedies needed for the constitution, have been used by the homeopathic community ever since. It is mainly used as a general emotional support remedy for the patient, it can have a great effect on symptoms that are experienced by the patient. For example: a person who gets easily stressed out by what others think of him and because of this fear, gets stomach cramps, experiences vomiting, or anxieties etc. When taking his corresponding constitutional remedy, these symptoms tend to lessen a great deal or even entirely disappear. It is a support remedy that has been viewed by many homeopaths, to be immensely beneficial in treatment.
Diseases tend to be multi layered and therefore often extremely complex, and certainly, diseases are not this easily expelled. However, the constitutional remedy deals with the general emotional and physical upsets we face in everyday life.
There are six on the Genotypes' side and there are six on the Phenotypes' side. The difference between Genotypes and Phenotypes is that the Genotypes are those characteristics in a relative healthy emotional and mental state of a person, where as the Phenotypes are seen as charactertics in their traumatic states. A particular genotype becomes a particular phenotype when people move into a trauma state. Homeopathy recognizes that diseases manifest not only physically, but also emotionally and mentally, such as when a trauma occurs. Every homeopathic remedy has a rubric which mentions the emotional and mental sphere which typically has been experienced by patients who need that specific remedy. These are layed out in the vast and various Materia Medica.
There are two triads in the Genotype Constitutions. These are the Silica/Phosphorus/Pulsatilla and the Lycopodium/Calcarea/Sulphur triads. Even though a person can have some traits of all the constitutions, we tend to fall into one of the triads. So for example a Silica personality can have a strong Phosphorus or a strong Pulsatilla trait, within their own personality.
Here are the Six Genotype Constitutions we recognize within the Heilkunst/Homeopathic system:
Principles and Fairness
The Silica constitution is highly introverted, the majority of their experiences are diverted inward. They like to think things over and usually keep their thoughts to themselves, rarely imposing their opinions on others. They tend to possess strong ethical sensibilities and seem to operate on their own principles. If these principles are challenged, the typical Silica will let his/her opinion be known, as they can take quite a strong stance on what they deem important. Never sweating the small stuff, they like to pick their battles.
They process their emotions mainly in their head, rather in their 'gut'. They enjoy being in their own company, and tend to have close one-on-one relationships. They can be shy by nature and it takes a Silica some time to 'bloom', they are usually the last to leave their parental house when coming of age.
Silicas can suffer from various forms of perfectionism and can spend hours getting a perfect outcome of a project. Also, they like to finish what they start and are more on the responsible side, if they say they'll do it, it will get done!
They tend to not like NOT knowing something, and will spend a long time (years even) finding answers to their questions. Many musicians fall into this category, they like the inner movement they feel when playing music and also simply because the Silica could not stop practicing!
Soul Connection and Expression
A Phosphorous constitution is in love with love. They can be shy at first, but are very social once they know you, always networking and creating get-togethers and events. Their main characteristic is that they need a soul connection to other people or even animals. The Phosphorous individual has an inner spark that people are naturally drawn to. They can loose themselves in other people, and even though they usually have many friends, they are not always bothered by loosing contact with friends. They have a spontaneous and bubbly personality who is quick to sense the feelings of others. They make great listeners and easily sympathize with people.
They can have a vivid imagination which sometimes leads them to exaggerate a little. They tend to talk before they think and sometimes have boundary issues. They are known to stir things up, if life gets too boring for them and they can be quite mischievous ! They love the excitement of travel and they like to break away from or change the repetitive mundane aspects of their lives. They simply need to love something, and can often, jump from one love to another!
Family Connections and Peace
The Pulsatilla constitution is the person of the family who emits a soft and warm radiance. Always concerned for the family, they take care of their family like no other. They prefer peace and harmony between the family members and will strife to be the ultimate peacemaker. Soft spoken, shy and timid are usually the typical traits of a Pulsatilla, but if their family is threatened in any way, they can turn into a tiger defending her cubs. The safety, care and wellbeing of her family is of the utmost importance.
The Pulsatilla also strongly needs to feel loved, and will usually go the extra mile(s) to feel that love, which can sometimes result in people taking advantage of that need. They are famous for craving emotional reward. Known to be fastidious, a typical Pulsatilla will not go to sleep with the dishes in the sink and likes to keep the house in order, although because they love kids, they don't mind toys around the house.
Practicality and Order
The Lycopodium constitution is one of the most practical. Being naturally drawn to Order and where things stand in the world, they make great lawyers, judges or diplomats. They have a natural ability to be tactful and to choose their words carefully. They also tend to take responsibility seriously and are known to get things done. Proper behaviour and a good personal appearance are important to the Lycopodium, and they will change outfits 10 times in a day if they would feel the need to.
The Lycopodium is typically introverted, on the quiet side and can be shy. Hierarchy is important to them, and they need to know where they stand in it. They prefer top positions and usually are in top positions because they take work commitments and demands seriously. They prefer jobs which give them a role of leadership and authority within the community.
Community orientated and steadfast
The Calcarea constitution often plays a large role in the community where they live. They like to participate in councels or organize any kind of sport games within the community. They love sports because of the community essence behind it and are often fans of various sport teams.
The Calcarea is a steadfast individual who has keeps his opinions mostly to himself. Often taking his own time coming to his own conclusions, the Calcarea is not easily swayed by other people's opinions. They are known to be present minded, reliable and to have a good memory. They tend to live where they were born and they tend to not move around much in the world, preferring to stay in the community that they know and love. They tend to like a sense of security and they will always look for it. They tend to live in rural areas, farms, rural small towns, etc.
Here and Now
The Sulphur constitution is all about the here and now, ever living in the present, this constitution is passionate with a flare of genius. Often loud and the life of the party, they typically seem to have no fear of anything. Practical and spirited at the same time, the Sulphur is often thought of as someone who is full of life.
The Sulphur can easily loose their temper and is often compared to a volcano when angry, yet forget what they were angry about 5 min later and expect you to forget too! They sometimes seem to have an unlimited source of energy. They tend to be all action, indeed if the Sulphur can direct their energy to one thing passionately, they can work on it for days without food or sleep. When bored with life, they can also be seen as somewhat lazy, and they are very good at it! They don't really care what others think of them and they tend to show that in the way they dress or present themselves. Most geniuses tend to fall into the Sulphur constitutions, simply because they dare to do what they want. They also are known to love mechanics, and how things work, and often collect machines of sorts. Think mad genius or calm benevolent king, those are typical Sulphurs!
